Easter Dolphins and the Gift of Solitude

This Sunday, while many people were looking for Easter eggs or bunnies, I was looking for Easter dolphins. And I found some!

In the middle of my Easter morning beach walk, I waded into the turquoise water to float on my back, letting the gentle waves hold me while I released any worries to the sea. I emerged after a few relaxing moments and noticed a small group of people on the beach staring out into the water.

When I looked in that direction, I recognized the familiar shape of dorsal fins and sleek, gray bodies gliding through the water. It was a pod of Atlantic bottlenose dolphins playing in the channel between two barrier islands. It brought me so much joy to see them! My heart expands whenever I encounter these magnificent creatures. It was just what my soul needed.

In fact, the whole weekend was what my soul needed.

I rarely have a full weekend with nothing on my calendar—no client sessions, no workshops, no social plans. But Easter weekend? Totally free. And even though some sweet friends encouraged me to “not isolate,” something inside me said, just be still. Take this time for yourself. Go inward.

I’m so glad I listened.

For 48 hours, I had no agenda. I just moved with whatever felt good—meditating, practicing yoga, napping, walking the beach, floating in the water, watching dolphins for as long as I wanted. It was heaven.

Later, on Easter afternoon, I tuned into a beautiful Easter message on YouTube from one of my favorite A Course in Miracles teachers, Jacob Glass. I shouldn’t have been surprised when he read the same section from the Course that I had been reading over the last several days.

In fact, I had just shared that very section with a few Course friends earlier that day because it spoke to me so deeply and offered me great comfort. It was just another wink from Spirit that I was where I was supposed to be.

And for Easter dinner? Nothing fancy. I popped a DiGiorno pizza in the oven. For me it was perfect. Simple and delicious.

In a culture that values productivity over presence, busyness over spaciousness, and doing over being, it can feel radical to take time for ourselves. But solitude is not selfish. In fact, it may be the most loving thing we can offer—to ourselves and those we care about. We cannot pour from an empty cup, and sometimes, rest is the most productive thing we can do.

So if you’re feeling overwhelmed, overbooked, or just a little disconnected from yourself, I invite you to take a breath. An hour. A weekend. Whatever you can manage. Go inward. Follow your heart. Be in nature. Or just sit in silence for a few minutes and feel the presence of peace.

You’ll be amazed at how something so simple can be so healing.

If you are having trouble returning to peace, it would be my great honor to assist you with a series of Spiritual Coaching Sessions or a private Family Constellations Session. Both will give you tools to see your situation from a new perspective. Please look around my website for more information about these opportunities and to book a session. You don’t have to navigate these challenging times alone!

Until next time, please be gentle with yourself and take time whenever you can to recharge and renew.

Let this day be a day of stillness and of quiet listening.
